Female Same Sex Fertility Health Assessment

Why Should You Consider a Fertility Health Assessment?

Starting your fertility journey as a same-sex couple is exciting, but it can also raise many questions about where to begin. A Fertility Health Assessment provides both partners with personalised insights into their fertility health, helping you explore your options for conceiving with donor sperm and decide whose eggs, womb, or both may be involved in your treatment plan.

Many same-sex female couples choose to have this assessment before starting treatment to gain a clear picture of each female partners fertility, discuss different treatment pathways (such as intrauterine insemination [IUI], in vitro fertilisation [IVF], or shared motherhood/reciprocal IVF), and make informed decisions about the best way forward together.

At The Surrey Park Clinic, our Fertility Health Assessment gives you the knowledge and confidence to take the next step in your journey to parenthood.

What's included?

Pelvic ultrasound scan with Antral Follicle Count

(for both partners)

Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) blood test

(for both partners)

Consultation with a fertility specialist

(both partners together)

Pregnancy Scans at The Surrey Park Clinic

What Does the Assessment Involve?

Our comprehensive fertility assessment for same-sex female couples includes:

  • Pelvic ultrasound scan for each partner to assess the womb and ovaries, check for conditions such as fibroids, cysts, or polyps, and measure Antral Follicle Count (AFC) to estimate egg reserve.
  • Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) blood test for each partner to measure ovarian reserve and give further insight into egg supply.
  • Joint consultation with a fertility specialist, where your results will be reviewed alongside your medical history, lifestyle, and family-building goals. This is also an opportunity to discuss treatment options such as IUI, IVF, or reciprocal IVF.

How is the Assessment Performed?

  • The AMH test is a simple blood draw.
  • The pelvic ultrasound is an internal scan of the womb and ovaries, performed for both partners.
  • Your results will be explained in detail during your consultation, including which treatment pathways might be most suitable for you as a couple.

The process is straightforward, minimally invasive, and typically requires just two visits.

What Happens Next?

During your consultation, your specialist will guide you through your results and help you explore the fertility options available to you. Whether you’d like to try IUI, IVF, or shared motherhood (reciprocal IVF, where one partner provides the eggs and the other carries the pregnancy), your doctor will outline the best next steps based on your fertility profiles and family goals.
